At COP21, the Council’s senior representatives and many members will be taking part in various sessions and getting feedback on our recommendations where we call for a “strong signal” and three key actions.
Governments draw on Trilemma Index findings
The 2015 Trilemma Index was simultaneously launched in the UK, Sweden,Switzerland and Costa Rica to wide global expert and media interest. The Index is key and core to countries developing a sustainable energy system – some governments are already drawing on the results in the Index to help them devise well targeted policies. At the launches, the importance of applying the “Energy Trilemma” approach and the specific regional issues that the Index identifies was highlighted

Portugal next venue for the 2017 Executive Assembly
At the Executive Assembly in Addis Ababa, Lisbon was chosen as the next city to host the World Energy Council Executive Assembly meeting in 2017.
Executive Secretary of the Associação Portuguesa da Energia, Bento Morais Sarmento, welcomes the decision and believes that Portugal is ready to showcase its energy achievements to the world. In the Council’s 2015 Energy Trilemma Index, Portugal ranked 34 out of 130 countries worldwide.
Commenting on the Trilemma Index ranking, Morais Sarmento said: “It is a solid, well-rounded score. Portugal has successfully liberalised its energy markets, expanded its renewable energy sector and lowered CO2 emissions. We are very happy to share our experience inside the World Energy Council community.”
2016 World Energy Congress momentum continues to build
Already 100 speakers from 40 countries including 12 ministers have now been confirmed as speakers at the World Energy Congress, for the international gathering of the energy community in Istanbul next year. The Congress is considered by global industry figures and policymakers as the first milestone on the long road from COP21.
The recent launch of the 2015 Trilemma Index enjoyed an exceptional level of media interest, and international attention is now on the Congress and what energy leaders will discuss. The team in London is observing the momentum around the Congress growing on a daily basis, as is reflected in the number and quality of speakers confirmed and the growing number of sponsorship deals which are being brokered.
