Extreme Weather Forum meeting

Two Extreme Weather Forums

Extreme weather events and their impact on energy infrastructure were at the core of discussions during two recent meetings of the knowledge network members of the Financing Resilient Energy Infrastructure.
Five key actions were considered for five key audiences – utilities/energy companies; project developers; long term investors; banks and insurance institutions (as “risk takers”) and regulators / governments. The full report will be published in October 2015.

Women’s Place in the Energy Industry

Increasing diversity in the energy sector is a major theme for Marie- José Nadeau, Chair of the World Energy Council. Recently she chaired a session at the “26th World Gas Conference 2015” describing the many challenges for women in the energy sector.
Marie-José Nadeau has also been widely quoted in leading publications and on broadcast media. At the World Gas Conference, WGC, she talked about the issues created by the global persistence of gender inequality in the workplace.

Italy discusses LNG

LNG Transport: Italy and the Mediterranean Area Issues Debate

More than 200 representatives from international organisations, institutions, companies and associations met in Rome on 11-12 June to discuss the perspectives of the use of LNG in maritime, road, rail transport and in off-grid plants.
The topics discussed were, amongst others, the development of logistics and transport capacity of small quantities of LNG to supply coastal storage, filling stations, factories and off-grid facilities.

New Zealand Develops the First Country-Level Use of Scenarios

The BusinessNZ Energy Council (BEC), New Zealand’s World Energy Council Member Committee, has initiated the first country-level use of The World Energy Scenarios: Composing Energy Futures to 2050.
The ‘BEC2050’ project has been underway for over 9 months. It is developing two potential future scenarios for New Zealand and has persuaded energy sector businesses and key government departments to support the project.

Romania is ahead of Europe

Romania Ahead of Europe on Renewable Targets

Romania is the first country in Europe to achieve EU Directives by increasing its share of renewables in the generation mix to over 20%, far ahead of the 2020 deadline, but there remain issues to be addressed.
At a recent international conference held in Bucharest, the Romanian Member Committee discussed the technical challenges and possible solutions for the continuing integration of renewables in electricity grids.
