New Zealand Future Energy Leaders: workshop to increase resilience
New Zealand participants in the World Energy Council’s FEL-100 programme, Jenny Lackey, Andrew Millar and Tina Frew, hosted a workshop for 25 participants in Wellington in association with the Asia-Pacific Energy Leaders’ Summit in March. The purpose of the workshop was to identify barriers and opportunities to increasing resilience to energy related risks.
The workshop in Wellington explored the results of a survey which assessed attitudes of FEL-100 participants and members of the New Zealand Young Energy Professionals Network to energy resilience.
Romania – now is the time to build new energy ethics
Energy experts attended a high level meeting in Bucharest organised by the Romanian member committee to discuss how the country should respond to the key findings of the 2015 World Energy Trilemma Index. Ranked at 54 out of 130, Romania maintains a stable positon in the Index.
Dr. Elena Popescu, Director General Energy and Environment Department in the Ministry of Energy, said: “The document is very useful for the Romanian Energy Strategy which is now in the process of elaboration. On the basis of the findings of this document, now is the time to build new energy ethics.”
Technology is the Future of Energy
The World Energy Council’s Co-chair Younghoon David Kim delivered a keynote speech in Seoul at the 2016 DongA New Energy Innovation Conference in February hosted by one of Korea’s most respected daily papers, the DongA Ilbo.

Future Energy Leaders’ Scheme for the 2016 World Energy Congress
The Future Energy Leaders’ Scheme will ensure that the industry leaders of tomorrow are fully represented at the 2016 World Energy Congress. 150 young energy professionals will attend the Future Energy Leaders (FEL) Summit in Istanbul, a programme developed especially for them including dedicated workshops as well as Congress general sessions.
In addition to the World Energy Council FEL-100 group, around 50 additional participants from all over the world will be nominated by member committees of the World Energy Council to attend the FEL Summit. The Council’s secretariat encourages member committees to do so before the 9th of May 2016 by contacting Sophie Rose, Head Future Energy Leaders Programme (srose@worldenergy.org). The Congress Organising Committee will be financially supporting both the FEL-100 group and the additional 50 Congress FEL.
New Subscription Formula 2016, a Member Committee led process
Following up from the decisions made during the 2015 World Energy Council Executive Assembly in Addis Ababa, the Council’s secretariat has received new subscription formula proposals from various member committees (MC). We are now entering the next phase of the project with the creation of an MC Advisory Group to provide process guidance and the objective to narrow the formula options by the time of the Finance Committee meeting on 9th of June 2016. Members of the Advisory Group will elect their Chair and work with MCs on the various formula options to provide their feedback. If you have any questions, please contact Sophie Rose (srose@worldenergy.org)
