The Africa Energy Indaba concluded last month (18–20 February) in Johannesburg, South Africa. The event is the WEC’s regular annual African gathering. Africa’s wealth of energy resources and untapped potential was highlighted, as was the need for more enablers that can unlock energy access for the broader population and new markets.

The annual Africa Energy Indaba, the WEC’s African regional event, is taking place this week (18-20 February) in Johannesburg, South Africa. “This year, the Africa Energy Indaba is taking itself to the next level,” says Brian Statham, Chair of the South African National Energy Association, the WEC member committee which is coorganising the event.

The World Energy Council held its inaugural World Energy Leaders’ Dialogue (WELD) in Abu Dhabi last week (21 January). Opening the event, His Excellency Suhail Al Mazourei, UAE energy minister, commented on how renewable energy is becoming a viable solution even for countries rich in fossil fuels. In his address, he explained that in the UAE, which has prioritised nuclear, renewables, and gas, renewable energy is set to grow as it competes with LNG imports.

The WEC will be holding its inaugural World Energy Leaders’ Dialogue this month (21 January) in Abu Dhabi, the UAE. The event will be co-hosted by H. E. Suhail Al Mazrouei, the UAE Minister of Energy, and Marie-José Nadeau, WEC Chair.
